George Washington by Ingri and Edgar Parin D'Aulaire
This book is about George Washington before he became president. John Washington was George Washington`s great grandpa. He came from England to start a colony in the new world. George Washington grew up on three farms; oyster-shell hill, Mount Vernon, and Ferry Farm. George was taught to read, write, and dance. One day George was hunting when he met Lord Fairfax. He liked George so much that he asked him to become one of his surveyors. George agreed and traveled far into the wilderness. When he saw the first Indians he was ready to go home. When he got home, Lawrence, his step brother, taught him to be a soldier. When George was 20 he became an officer. For four years he fought off the French. The English king sent a great army. George told them to hide but the Indians crushed them. The English king sent a bigger army. They ran away and never came back. George married Martha. They had two children; Patsy and John.
